Job Description:
The Practice Support Services Department of our AMLAW 100 client
has a Senior Paralegal opening in the Washington, DC office
supporting the International Arbitration Practice Group. The
Senior Legal Assistant provides high level legal assistant
support under direct supervision of attorneys on various client
and firm matters.
Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Assisting with organizing case documents, compiling case
materials, and working with attorneys during a written phase and
hearings.
* Attending hearings for production of witness & expert binders,
exhibits, and demonstratives.
* Assisting with document collection and profiling for attorney
review.
* Cite checking, researching authorities, and preparing legal
exhibits for arbitration submissions and court papers.
* Arranging case logistics, copy requests, and document
organization.
* Distributing case materials, documents, and research materials
requested by attorneys.
* Developing case tasks and assignments with attorney approval.
* Working on business development proposals, professional
development submissions.
* Researching and monitoring current and developing cases.
* Researching case authorities and background material for
attorney review.
* Setting up new case databases and writing templates.
* Assisting at hearings (tech support, hot seat presentation, and
direct/cross examination preparations).
* Training project legal assistants and overseeing case-specific
tasks of entry-level staff members (along with the
supervision/management of project legal assistants at hearings).
* Developing client case presentations and hearing materials.
* Managing assigned cases and their related tasks and projects.
* Performing a full range of paralegal tasks from case inception
through discovery process, trial, post-trial proceedings, and
case closure.
* Preparing deposition files and assisting with preparation and
filing of briefs.
* Conducting research using various resources including databases
and the internet.
* Providing attorneys with general organizational support and
other administrative duties.
* Establishing and maintaining case files, document collections
and chronologies.
* Conducting computer searches, research and case management
functions on client databases or firm resources such as Trial
Director, Opus 2 Magnum, Relativity, Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, the
Internet.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Four-year college degree strongly preferred.
* Excellent academic record.
* Minimum of three years of legal assistant experience.
* Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
* Familiarity with Relativity, Clearwell; Opus 2 Magnum;
Lexis/Nexis, and other case management and eDiscovery tools.
* Experience with electronic filing (CM/ECF registration) and
PACER.
* Ability to supervise legal assistants and legal assistant
clerks.
* Superior organizational skills with the ability to prioritize
and manage a large workload efficiently and effectively.
* Highly detail-oriented, including the ability to assess and
respond to underlying detail issues and implications.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills, a commitment to
professionalism, integrity, and collegiality.
* Proven ability to multi-task and set priorities while meeting
deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Exceptional problem-solving skills, critical thinking abilities
and the ability to work well under pressure.
* Flexibility to work overtime as necessary, including nights and
